Something Missing From Your TV ?

Residents of the Quad Cities and Clinton may have discovered that something's missing from their televisions - KWQC, Channel 6. Mediacom dropped the Davenport-based station from its cable line-up Tuesday due to the failure of negotiations to renew their contract.

The issue is how much should Mediacom pay KWQC and its parent company, Media General, for the right to carry its programs. And both are accusing the other of causing the blackout.

According to Mediacom, Media General is demanding the fee more than double from the previous contract. And that would make KWQC the most expensive station carried by the cable company in the 15-hundred communities it serves.
Media General counters that it's been able to reach new agreements with all the other cable and satellite providers that carry its television stations. And that it's only asking for what is fair.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
