Genesis & River Bandits Give 100k to Flood Relief

Two organizations have teamed up to help the Quad Cities recover from the flood. Genesis Health System and the Quad Cities River Bandits have raised $100,000 to give to local organizations that assist individuals, families, and businesses.

Genesis CEO Doug Cropper says the hospital system really wanted to help.

"We organized both volunteers and fundraising within our company, and I was talking with Dave Heller [the River Bandits Owner] about this and Dave also wanted to do something as well. And so, we combined forces between the River Bandits and Genesis Health System and raised $100,000."

$33,000 will be given to Humility Homes and Services to help over 60 residents who were displaced by the flood. Another $27,000 will go to the local chamber's Grow Quad Cities Fund which will help flood-damaged businesses to cover expenses such as lost wages. Genesis and the Bandits will decide how to distribute the rest of the money later.

Cropper says the donations were raised in a number of ways.

"The money came from the employees of Genesis that donated as well as the medical staff of Genesis. And from a River Bandits standpoint, there was money raised at the baseball games, and also from Minor League Baseball charities."

Cropper says Genesis has often helped the community in times of crisis, but this is its first time working with the River Bandits.
