The Salvation Army is now acting as the "central hub" for providing services to the homeless, or those in danger of becoming homeless, in the Quad Cities. This week, it opened a new office at the corner of Kirkwood Boulevard and Brady Street in Davenport.
The Salvation Army's Program and Operations Director, Kelle Larned, says the new office represents 22 other agencies in the area that provide housing and related services.
"They're coming to one place, one number, and work with one person, to try to get them into a housing program they'd qualify for."
Larned says in the past people who were homeless or worried about losing their homes would have to go from agency to agency asking for help. The change to a central hub system was ordered last year by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for any housing programs it funded.
She estimates the new Salvation Army office in Davenport will help between 150 and 200 people each month, referring them to other local agencies depending on the help they need.
