Even though it surpassed the goal last year, the United Way of the Quad Cities has scaled back its expectations for this year.
The new goal is 8.5 million dollars versus last year's pledges that totaled nearly 9 million. President Scott Crane says each year the United Way looks at the needs of the community and its capacity to give.
Results will be announced in late January, or February.
Crane says for several years the United Way has focused on education, income, and health. But this year, it's laid out the results and strategies it wants accomplished in those three areas, and will accept proposals on how to achieve them.
Proposals from non-profits will be accepted through December, then they'll be reviewed and approved by the United Way board next spring.
