Veterans can get some extra help this weekend. The 16th annual Stand Down for Homeless Veterans will be held at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island.
The organizer and director, Mike Malmstrom, says homeless veterans can spend the night, Thursday night and Friday night, and get food, haircuts, showers, and clothing.
Then, during the day on Friday any veteran can attend and get help from any of the 60 agencies and organizations that'll set up tables.
Each year, the Stand Down hosts anywhere from 50 to 125 veterans.
Malmstrom emphasizes his goal is "not a hand out, but a hand up" for veterans.
