Freight House Farmer's Market hosts first holiday event

The Freight House Farmer's Market is celebrating the holidays this weekend with its first ever holiday open house. The indoor market in Davenport will host more than 35 local businesses.

Freight House Chairperson, Darcy Rostenbach, says many people don't realize the farmer's market stays open year-round.

The holiday event is smaller than the summer farmer's market, which hosts 300 local businesses each week. But Rostenbach says shopping at the Freight House's open house this Saturday will still benefit the local economy.

The holiday open house on Saturday will offer locally grown food and gift items, plus free food and live music. It runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m at the Freight House on River Drive in Davenport.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
