Work will begin soon to preserve a run-down home in Davenport's historic Gold Coast neighborhood. The city council has approved the purchase of 510 West 6th Street, known as the Lambrite-Iles-Petersen home, and will give it to a non-profit group called Friends of 510.
Friends member, Mike Ryan, says it was built in the 1850's and designed by a famous architect, J.C. Cochrane.
Ryan says the first goal of the Friends of 510 is to restore utilities and stabilize the property so it's protected from additional damage.

So far the Friends of 510 has raised 38,000 dollars to pay for the project, and he says the group will probably try to get it included on the National Register of Historic Places, which would make it eligible for other contributions and grants.
The Friends are part of a larger organization, Gateway Redevelopment, which tries to preserve homes in the Gold Coast neighborhood, as well as other historic properties in Davenport.
