Immigration: Fact, Fiction and Solutions
Immigration: Fact, Fiction and Solutions
Immigration is an ever-present headline in today’s news cycle. Whether it is mass raids and deportations, the influx of ICE agents in cities like Minneapolis, Chicago and Los Angeles or, most recently, the fatal shooting of a woman who was at the scene of an ICE operation in Minneapolis and the many community-led protests this action has prompted.
All of this news can be overwhelming and prompt a slew of questions. For instance, how did we get here? What has been our country’s history with immigration? What is the role of immigration and what are possible solutions to today’s immigration issues?
All of those questions and more will be explored when the Quad Cities Civic Conversations presents its free forum, “Immigration: Fact, Fiction and Solutions,” from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Rock Island Public Library Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th St., Rock Island, Ill.
Featured speaker will be Peter Kivisto, Ph.D., the Richard A. Swanson professor of social thought emeritus at Augustana College, Rock Island.
