Iowa Primary on Tuesday

Iowa voters will make some important decisions on Tuesday, including choosing candidates for Congress and the US Senate. Polls will be open for the Iowa Primary election from 7 am until 9 pm.

The main race for Iowa Democrats to decide is who will oppose Republican US Senator Joni Ernst in November. Five names are on the ballot.

For Iowa Republicans, one of the key races is for Congress in Iowa's Second District where Democratic incumbent Dave Loebsack is retiring. In northwest Iowa, in the Fourth District, four other Republicans will try to beat incumbent Republican Congressman Steve King.

Republicans will also choose their candidates for Congress in the First and Third districts - where Democrats flipped both seats two years ago.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
