The Heights of the Era festival was held on Friday at Lindsay Park in the Village of East Davenport. Co-creator Michelle Russell says the lineup of bands featured headliner, "Tuba Skinny," at 8:15 pm.

She and her team planned ahead to help people handle the heat with special bounce houses with water, umbrellas, and large fans that spray water.

One goal of the free, "Heights of the Era" festival is to bring the music of Bix Beiderbecke back to the weekend of the Bix 7 road race. It's named after the Davenport native and key figure in traditional jazz.

The Heights of the Era kicked off Friday at 1:30 pm and ended early when a line of storms threatened the region. WVIK Classical at 98.3 FM and wvik.org broadcast the festival "live."

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
