QC Nepal Society hosts multicultural fundraiser

QC Nepal Society

The Quad Cities Nepal Society has raised 50,000 dollars since the earthquake last month--but fundraising continues. Scott Community College, along with the society, is holding "Nepal Night" tonight to help the country recover after the strong earthquake on April 25th, and aftershocks including this week.

Rad Pandit, from the QC Nepal Society, says money raised during the multi-cultural event will go towards food and supplies for the Nepalese.

Pandit says there are about 50 Nepalese families living in the Quad Cities, totaling 150 people. Most, if not all, have family members in Nepal affected by the earthquake.

The QC Nepal Society has partnered with other organizations such as the local Red Cross to make sure every dollar donated is used.

The society has paid to send a doctor to Nepal to distribute medicine and food. It's also given money to the largest hospital in the country, sent food to remote areas, and bought 1,000 tarps and blankets to make tents.

The Scott Community College fundraiser started at 4 and will run until 8 o'clock tonight in the Student Life Center.
