1920 9th Avenue in Rock Island, future site of a new Habitat home

For the 127th time, Habitat for Humanity will begin building a new home in the Quad Cities. On Saturday, the local chapter will hold a groundbreaking, at 1920 9th Avenue in Rock Island.

It will be the future home of Nancy Trice, a life-long resident of Rock Island, and the 27th home built in the city.

And it's made possible by the John Deere Foundation, Russell Construction, Quad City Bank and Trust, and Bank of America.

Habitat has one new home under construction in Davenport, and plans to start three more in Davenport later this summer. It also hopes to start four home renovations later this year.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
