Republican candidate for Illinois Governor, Paul Schimpf, at Rock Island County GOP headquarters in Rock Island.

During a stop in Rock Island Thursday, the former state senator said he is the only one who can do the three things Republicans have to do to win statewide office.

"You have to unite the Republican Party, you have to get crossover votes, and you have to be able to survive a 100 million dollar character assassination from J.B. Pritzker that we all know is coming."

He thinks people are frustrated with state government now, but nothing will change unless Governor J.B. Pritzker is defeated in November.

Schimpf believes the 2020 presidential election was not fair.

"We live under the rule of law and we have to abide by the process. President Trump had his day in court, he lost his day in court, so Joe Biden is my president."

He says he voted for Trump twice, but wishes while president that he'd "handled things differently."

There are two forums for the Republican candidates for governor next week, on Tuesday and Thursday, then a final long weekend of campaigning before the June 28th primary.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
