New Bike Path Project in Moline

City of Moline

Planning has started to build a walking and bike trail in Moline, along 19th Street, and from Avenue of the Cities to the Mississippi River. A public meeting about the project will be held Tuesday.

Shane Larson, Vice President and Project Manager for Hutchison Engineering, says his firm is ready to show what it's come up with so far for the project.

"We really do encourage people to come on Tuesday. We want to hear their ideas. Now is the right time because we still have time to get their ideas and/or answer their concerns and get that implemented into the project."

The estimated cost is nearly 3.3 million dollars, with 60 per cent state funding and the rest coming from the city. Work could begin next year.

Hutchison is also designing a new section of the riverfront bike path, between 17th and 19th streets, and around the Kone Center, but work on this would have to wait until the new I-74 Bridge is finished.

Tuesday's public meeting will be held at the Moline Library, from 4 to 6 pm.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
