Emergency crews are battling a massive structure fire at a grease plant in far northern Illinois.
An area within a one-mile radius of the Chemtool plant in Rockton is under a mandatory, full-scale evacuation.WIFR reports around 7 a.m. multiple area fire departments were called to 1165 Prairie Hill Road in Rockton for reports of smoke showing at Chemtool Incorporated.
Rockton Middle School and Stephen Mack Middle School serve as a staging area for those evacuated.
It is unclear what caused the fire and if there are any hazardous chemicals involved. There is also no word on injuries.
The Village of Rockton has posted an evacuation map on its Facebook page. The Village is also asking residents to avoid unnecessary water usage to conserve supply to fight the fire.
