A new documentary about actress Jean Seberg will premiere in Davenport this weekend. "Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg" chronicles the Marshalltown native's acting career and civil rights activism. The filmmakers are Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films in the Quad Cities, and Seberg biographer, Garry McGee. Kelly Rundle said much of their material has never been seen before. It's available now thanks to McGee's work for the past 20 years.
"He got the first interview that Jean's sister, Mary Ann, had granted anyone. The family had recieved a lot of requests for interviews, and I'm talking about requests at a network level, that they had always turned down. So, Gary was the first to win their trust and as a result, we hav enot only the interview with Jean's sister, who is kind of our primary guide to the story in the film, but we also had access to family home movies and family photographs," he said.
Born in 1938, Seberg decided to become an actress at the age of only 5. She's most famous for her performance in Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless." Rundle says she died mysteriously in Paris in 1979. "Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg" will premiere this Saturday at 7 pm at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. Doors open at 6 for people to meet the Rundles and McGee. Tickets can be ordered online at jeansebergmovie.com. A second screening will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2, at the Nighswander Theatre in Davenport.
