Success for Be a Tourist

Once again, local residents helped boost tourism in the Quad Cities on an otherwise quiet winter weekend. That's according to the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau after sponsoring its 13th annual "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard."

Spokeswoman Jessica Waytenick says some of the 45 participating hotels, restaurants, and attractions report it was their best year yet.

"Two of our new participants, Creekside Vineyards and It's a Mystery had increased customer traffic. And It's a Mystery had almost a sold-out show on Friday night so that was great for them.:"

And local hotels report 150 rooms were booked as part of the Be a Tourist weekend.

Waytenick says the convention and visitors bureau updated its website to make it more accessible for smart phones and other mobile devices - the coupons on their website were viewed more than 15,000 times, and about one-third of them were made using mobile devices.

Even though the weekend is over for this year, some coupons are still good through this week, and some through the end of the month. Go to the bureau's website and look for the "coupon" section.
