A new owner for a Clinton company means new jobs are coming to the city. Today Clysar announced it's been sold to a private firm, and the headquarters will move from Oshkosh Wisconsin to Clinton. Clysar makes shrink film used to wrap food and consumer goods.
Executive vice president and general manager, Bill Hare, says the company currently employs 280 people in Clinton, and when the move is complete in about one year, that will rise to 305.
"It was really just a matter of deciding whether we wanted to have a separate office in Chicago, Wisconsin, or somewhere else. And we made the management decision that having the entire team here in Clinton was the best situation."
Hare says the company intends to grow by challenging other forms of packaging such as cardboard and chipboard.
"Especially in the beverage market, we believe that when you go to the grocery store and you buy a 4-pack of V-8 juice or Starbucks capuccino, we believe there are opportunities for shrink film to replace the chipboard that you currently purchase those items in."
Clysar was founded in Clinton 50 years ago as a division of DuPont, and sold to the Bemis Company in 2002. The new owner is a private investment firm, Cove Point Holdings, based in New York City.
