July Drive for School Supplies

1st Day Project
Collecting supplies for the 1st Day Project

Once again, local school districts are organizing a school supply drive this summer. The 1st Day Project is a Quad Cities-wide drive that has been held every year since 2006.

List of supplies needed

There are multiple school and business drop-off sites across the area.
Celeste Miller, the project's Communications Director, says for example, 98 per cent of Davenport students qualify for either free or reduced price lunches.
"Our greatest needs are spiral notebooks, pocket folders, pencils and pens, and glue sticks. So we also need things like composition notebooks, notebook paper, crayons, markers, colored pencils, watercolors, erasers, scissors, rulers, pencil boxes..."

Miller says monetary donations can help as well.
"... and then, United Way, and the Community Foundation both have ways to give online, or they can make checks out, as well."
If you would like to learn more about the 1st Day Project's drop-off sites, and specific dates and times you can donate, visit the First Day Project on Facebook or refer to the graphics on this article page.
