Historic preservation groups plan to post the money required for them to appeal a decision in the Rock Island County courthouse lawsuit.

Demolition Delayed Again

Another delay in the possible demolition of the Rock Island County Courthouse, and it could last a while. On Monday, the Third District Appellate Court granted a request by preservationists to extend a temporary restraining order, blocking demolition.

The Peoria County judge who dismissed the Rock Island County courthouse case on March 19th, 2019 based her decision on the plain language of state law. 

Michelle O'Neill reports she also relied on a test case from three years ago, which was decided by a Henry County, Illinois judge.

The plaintiffs in the Rock Island County courthouse lawsuit are not giving up. The five historic preservation groups and two individuals are appealing a judge's dismissal of their case earlier this week. And their lawyer filed the appeal on Thursday in Rock Island.
