Officer Involved Fatal Shooting

members of the task force

The Rock Island County Integrity Task Force has been activated to investigate a weekend fatal shooting by Rock Island police. The task force includes state police, the sheriff's department, and city departments from Moline, East Moline, and Milan, but NOT Rock Island.

Late Friday night, officers responded to a report of a man beating a woman near downtown Rock Island. The suspect drove away, and once located, tried to run away. Police say they exchanged gunfire with the man several times before he was shot, and died, at the scene.

The four officers were not hurt, and have been placed on administrative leave.

The name of the suspect has not been released, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Rock Island County Integrity Task Force (309-752-4915), Quad Cities Crimestoppers (309-762-9500), or the Rock Island Police Department (309-732-2677).

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
