Board Chair Richard Brunk says consultants had already been working on new maps using data from the American Community Survey, or ACS, but now they can wait for the actual, official census numbers that'll be released in August or September.
"It's believed that the ACS data is pretty accurate, but most people are feeling much better about the fact that the actual census data will be able to be referenced in insuring that the maps reflect the most accurate information."
Along with having to draw new districts every ten years anyway, the Rock Island County board decided in April to reduce the size of the board from the current 25 members, to 19.
Brunk thinks proposed new maps could be available this fall for the board and local residents to consider, with final approval possible by November, well ahead of the December 31st state deadline.
