Local Democrats Try to Make Up Their Minds

With just a week to go until the Iowa caucuses, some eastern Iowa Democrats are still trying to make up their minds.

At the annual gala of the Scott County Democratic Party Saturday night, Pastor Rogers Kirk of Bettendorf said he’s narrowed the list to two - Biden and Warren - for now.

"I have not completely made my mind up, I'm caught between a couple of them. Couple of events coming up on Sunday that will help me decide."

Philip Tunnicliff from Bettendorf is leaning toward Bernie Sanders, because he’s looking for an “authentic and honest” candidate.

"I will be persuaded if he's not viable at the caucus, I will move for who-ever has the largest block because I'm a Democrat first."

Three candidates are at the top of the list for Marion Meginnis of Davenport - Warren, Klobuchar, and Pete Buttigieg.

"I like a lot of what I hear from all the candidates, and any one is better than what we're dealing with right now."

Cassandra Erwin of Davenport says Warren is her first choice, but Sanders is a close second.

"He's done a lot to push socialist issues into the mainstream, and I think that's phenomenal and that's done a lot for the country as far as bringing us to where we should be as a modern society."

Currently undecided is Matt Trimble from Davenport, but says he' leaning toward Sanders and Warren.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
