The National Cemetery on Arsenal Island will host a wreath laying ceremony on Saturday. The Korean War Veterans Association of the Quad Cities will commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.
The Korean War began in June of 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. And it officially ended three years later, on July 27, 1953 when an armistice was signed. An estimated 5.8 million Americans served in the armed forces during the war, and when it ended more than 36,000 had died as a result of "hostile action," with more than 103,000 wounded.
The ceremony begins at 10 am Saturday at the cemetery's Memorial Walkway and will include a wreath laying, rifle salute, and taps.
