Flood Recovery Help

Now that the need for immediate help has mostly passed, two agencies are handling most of the assistance for flood victims.

Kelly Thompson, vice president of Grantmaking and Community Initiatives for the Quad Cities Community Foundation, says residents of Scott County should call Community Action of Eastern Iowa, while people living in Rock Island County should call Project Now.

"Numbers helped by the American Red Cross with that immediate need have definitely been in the hundreds across the Quad Cities. And then for those coming in to this phase of getting back to normal, we've had at the community action agencies in the dozens."

Monday was the deadline for flood victims in Scott County to apply for help from FEMA, but it's been extended to to July 16. And the deadline is Wednesday for local businesses on both sides of the river hurt by the flood to apply to the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.

The two community action agencies do not provide direct assistance, but offer case management and referrals.
