Inspiring Young Talent: How the Quad Cities Supports its Emerging Leaders

In this episode of What’s Happenin’ QC, we sit down with Ty Lewis, the Director of the Emerging Leaders program at the United Way. Ty gives us an inside look into the program and shares his personal journey and passion for helping young professionals in the Quad Cities community.

The Emerging Leaders program is an incredible opportunity for individuals aged 21-40 to make a positive impact in their community. Ty explains that the program offers a wide range of resources, connections, and skill-building opportunities to its members. By networking with each other and other executives, engaging in professional development, and participating in volunteer work, these young professionals are being prepared to become future leaders and executives, ultimately improving the Quad Cities.

Ty's role as Director is vital to the success of the program. He shares his responsibilities, which include recruiting new members, communicating about upcoming events, advising on program direction, and ensuring there are ample volunteer and leadership opportunities. Ty also sheds light on his efforts to connect with business executives to understand their needs and make the Quad Cities attractive for young talent.

Listeners will be inspired by Ty's personal journey and how he became involved with the United Way at such a young age. Coming from Georgia and moving to Rock Island in 2013, Ty's hard work, dedication, and involvement in student groups and volunteering led to scholarships and opportunities that allowed him to graduate debt-free from Blackhawk College and St. Ambrose University. Ty's story serves as a testament to the power of mentorship and the boundless potential that can be found within the Quad Cities community.

While discussing his personal life, Ty highlights his love for sports, particularly basketball and baseball. He also shares his belief that the Quad Cities offers a plethora of recreational activities and community assets that are often underappreciated. From River Bandits games to bowling and golf, Ty strives to make the most of all the Quad Cities has to offer while also meeting new people.
