A group of local workers is empowering homeless women by giving them socks, nail polish, inspirational books, and handwritten notes. This week, Royal Neighbors of America employees are giving away "Baskets of Hope" to social service agencies in the Quad Cities.
Spokeswoman Vickie Sedam says by the end of the week, the employees will deliver more than 200 care packages. Volunteers filled them with toiletries, household products, and books.
Sedam says this is the fourth year Royal Neighbors has donated the baskets to local agencies.
Wednesday, Royal Neighbors workers first stopped at Humility of Mary Shelter in Davenport, where Jill Brown is staying until she moves into an apartment next week.
Royal Neighbors will also deliver Baskets of Hope to women at Project NOW, Winnie's Place, Family Resources, and Dress for Success Quad Cities.
