Mississippi Rising Slowly

In the Quad Cities, the Mississippi River is rising slowly - it's come up 1.7 feet since Friday and is now 3.3 feet below flood stage. The National Weather Service now predicts it will reach flood stage by next Sunday (3/6) which is considered "minor flooding."

At Dubuque, the Mississippi should reach flood stage on Friday, and at Clinton on Sunday.

Not much to worry about along the Rock River, at least for now. It's 2 to 3 feet below flood stage at both Joslin and Moline, and expected to hold near that level through the weekend.

The Wapsipinicon River, however, is rising. At DeWitt it's risen 1 foot since Friday, and is now 1 foot below flood stage.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
