Veterans from the Quad Cities area will be honored Saturday. The Davenport City Cemetery will hold a ceremony that will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
Kory Darnall is a member of the Davenport City Cemetery Partnership that's worked to fix up the old cemetery on Rockingham Road. He says it has the graves of 8 local soldiers who served in World War I, plus one from the War of 1812, and some from the Civil War and Korea.
"A lot of our veterans had been in unmarked graves for well over 100 years and we do believe now we have all of our veterans grave sites marked, either with a gravestone provided by the Veterans Administration or a medallion that has been provided by a service organization like the VFW or the American Legion."
The ceremony will feature presentations about World War I and the veterans buried there, and live musical performances.
It begins at 10 am Saturday. The Davenport City Cemetery is located at 1625 Rockingham Road.
