When he's sworn in next month, a new alderman in Rock Island will be ready to work. Yesterday, voters in the sixth ward chose Joshua Schipp to represent them on the city council.
Schipp is opposed to the approach Rock Island officials have taken on the Jumer's Crossing project, saying it will take reconciliation and cooperation with the owners of the levee for that project to continue. He also thinks the city took a risk by spending 15 million dollars to clear the Watch Tower Plaza site without having an agreement with Wal-Mart or another retailer.
Schipp also says he's looking forward to working with another newly elected alderman. Yesterday, former county board member, Virgil Mayberry, won the second ward seat on the Rock Island City Council.
