Local police are asking people to stop giving thieves easy access to money, purses, wallets, phones, and GPS units. The Rock Island Police Department announced a new, "Lock Your Doors" campaign last week.
Lieutenant Tim McCloud is the Director of Criminal Investigation and says over the last few weeks, residents have reported more than 20 burglaries in residential neighborhoods. And the thieves usually don't target locked cars with the windows rolled up.
In fact, McCloud says six of the burglaries resulted in the cars being stolen.

The Rock Island police lieutenant says leaving cars, homes, and garages unlocked is an open invitation to thieves. And McCloud says make sure valuable items aren't visible. Take them inside or hide them under a seat or in the trunk.
