First Woman to Lead American Legion to Speak in Milan

The American Legion is celebrating 100 years of helping veterans and protecting their interests. On Friday, Milan Post 569 will host a stop on the group's State Membership Caravan. It's one of 19 Illinois cities on the schedule this year.

Adjutant James Greenwood says in 1919, Congress chartered the national organization to serve World War One veterans.At tomorrow's luncheon, Denise Rohan, the Immediate Past National Commander, will talk about the legion's mission to serve veterans and the country. 

She'll also discuss challenges including attracting more members. Greenwood says more than 200 veterans belong to Milan Post 569, ranging in age from 19 to 90.

The American Legion's Illinois Commander and other officers will also come as part of the State Membership Caravan. It'll begin at noon Friday in Milan.
