The Mississippi River may be back within its banks. But FEMA is reminding Iowa residents they only have one week to register for to get federal help with flood recovery.

Spokeswoman Deanna Frazier says some people are worried about other flood victims.

But assures them there's enough funding for all the survivors.

Others may be concerned the grants they receive from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will affect the amount of money they receive from other federal programs.

But Frazier says that is NOT true.

Everyone whose home or apartment was damaged should register. And those who have flood-related expenses, such as hotel bills, should apply.

Nearly 2,500 Iowa households have registered for disaster assistance, 278 from Scott County and 75 from Louisa County. So far, Frazier says FEMA has granted $13.7 million to households in Iowa for flood recovery. The majority of the grants have been distributed to people who live along the Missouri River.

The deadline to register for financial assistance is July 1st for households affected by floods and storms from March through mid-May. The number is 800.621.3362, or disasterassistance.gov.
