Clinton's Wild Rose Casino May Offer Off-Track Betting

Gamblers may soon be able to bet on dog and horse races in Clinton. Tomorrow, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will meet in Davenport. And the commission will consider an agreement between the Iowa Greyhound Association and Wild Rose Casino.

Summary

Brian Ohorilko, Administrator of the state commission, says the deal would be the first of its kind since a greyhound racing law passed two years ago. It allows simulcasts and pari-mutuel betting at casinos that are not located at racetracks. Part of the reason is to generate revenue for the Iowa Greyhound Association which took over the racetrack in Dubuque.

If it passes, fans will be able to bet on many races, including the Kentucky Derby and Belmont.

Along with its agreement with Clinton's Wild Rose Casino, the association is also asking the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to approve next year's license and schedule for the track in Dubuque.
