Davenport aldermen are set to vote on a project that will connect the new Kraft Heinz plant with the rest of the city. Tomorrow, the city council is scheduled to consider hiring Langman Construction to build a new road called Granite Way.

Deputy Public Works Director, Brian Schadt, says the plant is being built on about 70 acres between the Davenport Airport and the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center.

A state grant will pay for 80% of the $2.4 million road project. Schadt says Davenport's cost will be nearly $595,000 which is already set aside in this year's capital improvement plan.

We've got a bit going on, obviously the transload facility which on this particular agenda cycle as well is the contract for consideration with Savage which would be our short line operator. So we'll actually be able to open up the transload and start marketing.

Other parts of the project include traffic signals and adding turn lanes on Slopertown Road and Enterprise Way. Langman Construction submitted the low bid at $2.9 million.

Davenport aldermen are set to vote on the proposal at tomorrow's city council meeting.
