Bettendorf Library Gradually Reopens, Resuming Some Services

People who want to visit libraries in Scott and Muscatine counties will soon be allowed inside. After closing for two months, the Bettendorf Public Library opened its doors on Monday.

Director Sue Mannix says patrons don't get to browse the shelves for books, music, and movies.

And only limited services are available, such as computers and internet access.

Only every third computer is available to maintain six feet between patrons.

And an employee disinfects each work station after each use.

Mannix says earlier this month, the Bettendorf library began offering no contact, curbside pickup service for materials placed on hold online or by phone.

During the pandemic, the workload for her staff of 42 has increased.

That's because many students and parents have been calling or emailing questions and requests for help with online resources.

Bettendorf library employees have also gone "live" on Facebook, or recorded videos for storytime, STEM activities, and book discussions. The library is open during its regular hours. Due dates on all materials have been extended until mid-June.

In Davenport, library due dates have also been extended to June 15th. In addition, the Fairmount Street drive-up window is open weekdays from 1 to 5 pm.

The library in Eldridge is offering curbside pickup by appointment. And other Scott County libraries have also started offering the service.
