Re-surfacing of a busy Rock Island street will start Monday (8/27). Four blocks of 18th Avenue will be closed this week from 17th to 21st Street.
Public Works Director Larry Cook says traffic will be detoured to 23rd Avenue.
"There will be some curb ramps that will be re-done to meet current ADA compliance standards and there will be storm drains that are re-done along the route as well."
This is phase one of a year long project, with phase two scheduled to begin next week (tues 9/4). The second phase is expected to last for a couple of months and will re-surface the North side of 18th Avenue from 21st Street to 30th Street and the North side from 39th to 46th Street.
Some side streets will be closed at 18th Avenue during the project.
No construction will occur along the route of Rock Island's annual Labor Day Parade until after the holiday.
