Register to vote, talk to elected officials, and take action. That was the message today from Augustana College professor, Christopher Whitt, at the King Center's annual Martin Luther King Celebration in Rock Island.
Over 500 people filled the King Center to honor the Civil Rights leader for the thirty-second year in a row. And, Whitt, who teaches Political Science, delivered a message about taking action in the face of injustice.

Whitt says inequalities in society are partly caused by a lack of empathy and motivation. And, all communities should push elected officials to fight for justice. Several officials were at the celebration, including Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.

Whitt says the black community should celebrate how far it's come, but there's always more work to be done.
