John Deere Classic Canceled

The John Deere Classic will not be played this summer. Thursday tournament officials announced the cancelation of what would have been the 50th PGA Tour event in the Quad Cities, and the 21st at TPC Deere Run in Silvis.

Tournament Director Clair Peterson blames continuing health and safety concerns arising from the coronavirus pandemic. “While we considered several alternatives for the Classic, this was the choice that made the most sense for our guests, the players, and the Quad City community at large.”

Despite the cancelation, the tournament will continue its commitment to the Birdies for Charity campaign, and promises at least a five per cent bonus for all participating organizations. Each pledge based on pennies per birdie will be converted to a flat 20 dollar donation.

Last year, the tournament raised $13.8 million for 543 organizations.

This year’s John Deere Classic was scheduled for July 6-12.
