COVID Cases in Illinois Prisons

New cases of the coronavirus in Illinois include some prisoners and staff at the East Moline prison. The Department of Corrections says 26 men at the minimum security East Moline Correctional Center have tested positive, and are being isolated from other prisoners.

Three employees have also tested positive, and both sets of cases have been traced back to one, dorm-style living unit.

At the state prison in Dixon, one staff member has tested positive, but no inmates so far.
The department reports two cases among employees at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg and 15 inmates have tested positive.

The center in Kewanee reports three cases among the staff, but none from the inmates.

Tuesday the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 623 new confirmed covid cases in the state, including 72 confirmed deaths. So far Illinois reports 6,400 deaths from the pandemic and a total of 133,000 cases.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
