QC Airport Plans Renovations

Planning has begun to renovate parts of the Quad City International Airport. This month, the board hired a Minneapolis-based architectural firm called Alliiance (yes, that's the correct spelling) to design and implement several improvement projects.

Ben Leischner, Executive Director of the airport, says the lobby, ticket area, and baggage check-in haven't changed for 35 years.

Projects include moving large baggage screening equipment out of the lobby, upgrading the passenger security screening area, plus exterior improvements such as covered and heated sidewalks.

Construction won't begin for a few years. It'll take that long to plan and raise money.

Leischner says the airport will need funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to help pay for the renovations.

In the meantime, the Quad City International Airport also plans to add two children's play areas, valet parking, and covered parking with solar panels.
