Rock Island County Clerk, Karen Kinney, says many voters will wait until more states have narrowed the field of presidential candidates. Whenever they decide to cast their ballots, she says they'll have to declare a party affiliation.
New this year in Illinois will be same day voter registration.

We don't really encourage that because if everyone is registered before election day, it speeds up our process. It's the law now, and we will be able to provide that.

The number of registered voters in Rock Island County has increased to 95,000, or nearly 7,000 more than 2012. Kinney says more than 21,000 people turned out to vote in that primary election, or about 25% of registered voters.

Early voting runs from Thursday, February 4th through March 14th. Kinney says next month, her office will be open on Saturdays and Sundays for early voting. More information is available on the Rock Island County Clerk's election website.

The primary election will be held on March 15th.
