Historic preservation groups plan to post the money required for them to appeal a decision in the Rock Island County courthouse lawsuit.

Last week, the county State's Attorney, John McGehee, said the deadline was Monday, April 8th, for the plaintiffs to post $336,000 to extend a temporary restraining order.

But in an email message late yesterday, Landmarks Illinois and the other plaintiffs said the appellate court did not specify a deadline.
And they say the state's Supreme Court rules require appeal bonds to be posted within 30 days of the circuit court ruling. That's about a month from March 19th.

The plaintiffs plan to post the bond this week.

Landmarks Illinois and the other plaintiffs in the Rock Island County courthouse case may have a deadline to meet. Last week, the Third District Appellate Court granted their request to extend a temporary restraining order. But they must post an appeal bond of $336,000.

Rock Island County State's Attorney, John McGehee, says the money would pay for the county and Public Building Commission's possible damages since a demolition contract has already been signed. He also says the bond has to be posted within seven days of the appellate court's order, which was Monday, April 1st.

On Friday, Landmarks Illinois said it plans to post the bond on time. Four other preservation groups and two individuals are also plaintiffs in the case.
