Recycling is about to get easier for residents of Scott County. Tomorrow, the Waste Commission will hold an open house at its recycling center for people to see how the new, single-stream process works.
Spokeswoman Brandy Welvaert says all the new carts have been delivered. And starting Monday, residents won't have to separate paper from glass, plastic, and metal. The center will also handle more recyclable materials.
Containers made with both paper and metal will also be accepted, for example Pringles "cans" that are made of cardboard with metal rims.
Welvaert says 15 employees will still hand sort materials. But one new machine will separate steel cans.

The Waste Commission has a website with more information HERE.
And the cart lids feature information about materials that will and won't be accepted. Besides number six plastics, yard waste, trash, and plastic bags will be prohibited.
The construction and expansion of the Scott Area Recycling Center cost $4.6 million. The new equipment, which was needed to replace old machines, cost $3.1 million. And the county received a zero interest loan to buy the carts for $2.7 million. Tomorrow's open house runs from 4 until 7 pm.
