Four Davenport police officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing after they shot and killed a man last month. That was the announcement this afternoon from Scott County Attorney Mike Walton.
He concluded the four were justified in using deadly force for the death of 54 year old James Cave.
On September 22nd, police received a report of a man with a gun who was threatening to hurt himself or his fiance. Officers talked with Cave for 3 hours, but then they say he began moving toward them "aggressively," with a gun in his hand and another in his waistband - that's when they fired.
Afterwards, police found both guns were loaded.
The Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agree with Walton that the shooting was justified.
