Thanks to the economy and the pandemic, Rivermont Collegiate has decided to lower its tuition. Monday the private school in Bettendorf announced a 20 per cent reduction starting in the fall.
Associate Head of School, Phil Dunbridge, says even before the coronavirus, colleges and private schools were beginning to realize the cost of their tuition was rising faster than the economy.
"So looking at the average growth of the Quad Cities area we were out-pacing that. And so essentially we were making it harder and harder for our citizens to be able to enroll and afford Rivermont tuition."
Admissions took a hit last fall when COVID forced some local families to withdraw their children from Rivermont.
Tuition currently ranges from $14,730 to $15,990 a year depending on the grade level, but with the reduction all students will pay $12,290 in the fall. Enrollment is currently 206, with some students attending virtually, both in the Quad Cities and from overseas.
