Students in the Quad Cities will soon have new opportunities for hands-on learning. Today the Nahant Marsh Education Center broke ground for an expansion of the center in southwest Davenport.

Brian Ritter, Director of Nahant Marsh, says the 1,600 square-foot expansion will include a large classroom, additional rest rooms, and storage space for the education center.

Nahant Marsh Board Treasurer, Curtis Lundy, says the new space will allow for more  educational programming, especially for students from colleges and schools in the Quad Cities.

Lundy says the expansion is made possible by donations from several local organizations and citizens. However, the Nahant Marsh Education Center still has to raise the final 15 percent of its 550,000 dollar goal to pay for the project.
