Construction will begin Monday in Rock Island, where an old elementary school used to be. Today the city and the school district helped CVS break ground for a new store, on 18th Avenue.
It's the former site of Audubon Elementary School which closed in 2010, and was  demolished last year.

Among the people celebrating was Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley.
The new store will replace the nearby CVS that's adjacent to Hy-Vee, which will use the site to build a convenience store with gas pumps.

In 2013, Fareway wanted to build a grocery store on the site, but withdrew after nearby residents protested.

Unlike Fareway, asked for no special help from the city.

Former students of Audubon Elementary School also gathered at the site this morning, to see the unveiling of a time capsule from 1922. It was found in the cornerstone during demolition, and included a 93-year-old newspaper, students' signatures, and documents from the Board of Education.

Mayor Pauley says some other businesses may also build on the property.
