Albert Park is Medical Director of Trinity's Inpatient Rehabilitation Services. He says for people trying to recover from strokes, brain injuries, and other conditions, the environment matters.
"For patients who have experienced life-altering events, rehabilitation is extraordinarily hard work - it's both a mental and physical journey. Here and now we're creating a state-of-the-art rehabilitation environment that addresses both of these needs and will allow our patients to truly thrive."
And he thinks local residents shouldn't have to leave the Quad Cities for access to world class rehabilitation services.
Mark Tarr, President and CEO of Encompass Health, says by 2030 one of every five Americans will be 65 or older.
"As we get older, the likelihood of our needs for rehabilitation services goes up - a greater chance of having a stroke, fractured hip, other neurological condition, or even other chronic conditions that will heave us in a position of being not as strong, not as functional, as we otherwise would be."
The new facility will have 40 beds, nearly double the number now in the rehabilitation unit at Trinity's hospital in Rock Island. It will create 75 to 80 new jobs.
Encompass Health now operates 139 of these hospitals across the US, and 50 of them are joint ventures like this new one in Moline with Unity Point.
