A 51 year old high-rise apartment building in Rock Island has a new look and a new name. Friday a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Two Rivers Point, formerly known as Sunset Heights, to celebrate the completion of a complete renovation.
The project was for Community Home Partners, the new name for the Rock Island Housing Authority. And CEO Susan Anderson says the agency spent 12 million dollars on the 11-story building, that has 141 - studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments.
"It included a total gut and rehab. We did from the roof down, on the exterior, and new boiler system, and all the units were refreshed and re-done so they're brand new. It's a solid old building that needed a facelift."
Built in 1968, the building on 9th Street at 31st Avenue, formerly housed low income clients of the Rock Island Housing Authority, especially seniors. But Anderson says the agency, CHP, now offers good quality and affordable housing to anyone.
This is just the latest project for Community Home Partners - next will be the demolition and re-building of Lincoln Homes.
